John Goodman has signed on to appear in the second season of Netflix's "The Beast in Me," Variety has learned. He will play Jack, the father of Aggie Wiggs, the character portrayed by Claire Danes.
Netflix announced the second season in September, with Danes confirmed to return in her Season 1 role. Specific plot details for the new episodes have not been disclosed.
Goodman has received 11 Emmy nominations over his career, seven of them for his lead role in the sitcom "Roseanne." He won the Emmy for outstanding guest actor in a drama in 2007 for his work on "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip." He later returned as Dan Conner in the "Roseanne" revival, which was renamed "The Conners" and ran for seven additional seasons.
His television credits also include "The Righteous Gemstones" on HBO and "Damages" on FX. On the big screen, he has worked repeatedly with the Coen brothers, appearing in "Raising Arizona," "Barton Fink," "The Big Lebowski" and "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" His other film work includes "Digger," "Argo" and "Flight." Goodman is represented by Gersh and Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz.
"The Beast in Me" was first announced as a limited series when Netflix picked it up in 2024, and it competed in that category at this year's Emmy Awards. Season 1 star Matthew Rhys won the Emmy for outstanding lead actor in a limited or anthology series. The show also took home the award for outstanding music composition for a limited or anthology series, movie or special, for its original dramatic score.
Following the path of "Big Little Lies" and other series that began as limited projects, Netflix and the production team began considering a second season and opened a writers' room earlier this year.
Howard Gordon, who served as showrunner in Season 1, will act as co-showrunner for Season 2 alongside Daniel Pearle, an executive producer on the first season. Gabe Rotter is the creator and an executive producer of the series. Danes will again executive produce in addition to starring.
The executive producing team also includes Antonio Campos, Caroline Baron, Amy Lippman, Conan O'Brien, David Kissinger, Jeff Ross and Jodie Foster. The series is produced by 20th Television.
