Brevard County officials have temporarily relocated a group of Election Day polling locations after extreme flooding hit the area, according to the county's Supervisor of Elections Office. The moves affect voters casting ballots on Tuesday in precincts across the county.
"For the safety and security of our election workers and the voters of Brevard, it is necessary to relocate a couple of precinct polling locations due to these unprecedented circumstances," Supervisor of Elections Tim Bobanic said in a news release.
In all, six polling sites are being moved. Voters assigned to Precincts 307, 512 and 525 will vote at the New Shiloh Christian Center instead of the Max K. Rodes Park Community Center, while Precinct 309 shifts from the Veterans Memorial Complex to the same New Shiloh location.
Precinct 306 moves from the Eddie Lee Taylor Sr. Community Center to the Joseph N. Davis Community Center. Voters in Precincts 323 and 509, who would normally go to the Front Street Civic Center, will also cast their ballots at the Davis center.
Elsewhere, Precinct 517 relocates from the Faith Baptist Church of Palm Bay to the Palm Bay City Hall Council Chambers, and Precincts 320, 513 and 522 move from the EFSC Palm Bay Community Dining Room to the Franklin T. DeGroodt Memorial Library.
Officials said there may be additional polling location changes, and voters are asked to check votebrevard.org for the latest information before heading out to vote.
Across Florida, polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time, and part of the Florida Panhandle falls in the Central Time zone. Voters who are in line before 7 p.m. will still be allowed to vote, even if they end up casting their ballot after the polls officially close.
With flooding and street closures affecting parts of Brevard County, officials recommend that impacted voters allow extra time to reach their polling location. They also reminded residents that on Election Day, every voter must vote at his or her assigned precinct.
The relocation plan was announced through information released by the Brevard County Supervisor of Elections Office.
