Cherif Millogo officially announced his commitment to the University of Kentucky on Wednesday, solidifying his status as the top recruit in head coach Mark Pope's program since his return to Lexington. The addition marks a significant milestone for the Wildcats, as Millogo surpasses previous high-profile signings to become the highest-ranked player in Pope's roster history.

The 7-foot-5 center has experienced a dramatic rise in national standing. In the latest update to ESPN's 2027 recruiting rankings, Millogo jumped from just inside the top 40 to the No. 8 position. This surge places him as the No. 2-ranked center in the country and highlights his status as one of the most impactful risers in the class.

Born in Burkina Faso, Millogo has navigated a complex high school career. He previously attended Cambridge Arts, Technology and Science in Massachusetts before transferring to St. Francis in California for his junior year. His sophomore season was cut short by a torn ACL, which delayed his initial exposure to major college programs.

Despite the injury history, Millogo had been on the radar of power-conference coaches for over a year. His recent performance at the Border League event in Las Vegas served as a catalyst for increased interest. His standout play at the tournament attracted new offers from several major programs, including North Carolina, Texas, Tennessee, Louisville, and Arkansas.

To evaluate his options, Millogo undertook official visits to three schools. He traveled to Kentucky in mid-October, followed by trips to BYU and USC in late November. His decision to commit to the Wildcats reflects a combination of program fit and potential for long-term development.

Analysts describe Millogo as possessing the highest ceiling in the 2027 class, potentially making him the best NBA prospect from this year's group. His physical attributes are exceptional, featuring a 7-foot-9 wingspan and significant standing reach. These traits allow him to protect the rim effectively while also expanding his offensive game with 3-point and mid-range shooting capabilities.

The commitment strengthens Kentucky's 2027 recruiting class, which already includes Ryan Hampton, a No. 31-ranked prospect from the SC Next 100. With Millogo's addition, the Wildcats now have a duo of highly touted big men poised to make an immediate impact.

The signing also highlights the growing influence of assistant coach Alfred Aboya, who joined the staff recently. Aboya previously served as the head coach at the NBA Academy Africa and has established connections within the West African basketball community. His role in facilitating the recruitment is seen as an early success for the new staff member.

Aboya's ties to Millogo are personal as well as professional. The assistant played at UCLA alongside Luc Mbah a Moute, a former star for the Bruins. Mbah a Moute serves as Millogo's legal guardian, creating a direct line of trust between the player and the coaching staff.

The connection to Mbah a Moute is notable in the broader context of African basketball recruiting. The former UCLA star also acts as the legal guardian for Yann Kamagate, who is currently ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2028 class. This network underscores the strategic value of Kentucky's new coaching relationships in securing international talent.
