Federal authorities raided a mansion in Beverly Hills, California, on Tuesday morning as part of an investigation related to former Rep. Eric Swalwell, a California Democrat, according to Fox News.
Swalwell stepped down from Congress and dropped out of the California governor's race earlier this year after several accusations of sexual misconduct. At least five women, including a former staffer, have accused him of sexual misconduct or rape. He spent 13 years in the House and left office in April, after lawmakers had threatened to expel him.
The Beverly Hills search follows an operation in August, when the FBI searched Swalwell's home in Washington, D.C., and took his electronic devices at San Francisco International Airport. Sources familiar with the matter said that action was connected to a sexual misconduct probe. Swalwell was neither arrested nor detained.
At the time of his resignation, Swalwell said he would contest the allegations. "I will fight the serious false allegations made against me," he wrote. He added: "However, I must take responsibility and ownership for the mistakes I did make."
The former congressman also drew fresh attention this week over a separate matter. On Monday, the White House released declassified FBI records about an inquiry into his relationship with Christine "Fang Fang" Fang, who was suspected of being a Chinese intelligence operative. The records were made public by the White House's new Government Transparency Task Force.
According to those documents, Swalwell told FBI agents he had "physical relations" with Fang on a handful of occasions. By his own account in the records, their last sexual encounter took place in March 2015. The FBI interviewed him about the relationship in May 2015 and again in March 2016.
Fang was believed to have ties to China's Ministry of State Security, known as the MSS. Her parents were also reportedly regarded as known Chinese intelligence officers.
