The New York Giants are making a long-term commitment to one of the most important pieces of their defense. The team agreed with cornerback Greg Newsome II on a three-year contract extension worth $46 million on Tuesday, ESPN reported, with $32 million of the deal guaranteed.
Newsome had been playing out a one-year contract he signed with the franchise in March, a deal valued at $8 million. The new agreement lifts his average annual salary to $15.3 million, a significant raise for the 26-year-old defender.
The price also appears favorable for New York. That average annual value sits outside the top 20 highest-paid cornerbacks in the NFL at the moment, placing Newsome just below Detroit Lions corner D.J. Reed at $16 million per year and just above Tennessee Titans corner Cordale Flott at $15 million.
Through six games this season, Newsome has allowed only 53.6% of passes thrown his way to be completed, according to TruMedia. Opposing quarterbacks have posted just a 57.7 passer rating when targeting him, a pace that would mark the best figure of his career. His previous career low was 73.2, set in both 2023 and 2025 while he was with the Cleveland Browns.
Newsome has yet to give up a touchdown this season and has allowed only two completions of 20 or more yards. He has also recorded one interception.
A product of Northwestern, Newsome first entered the league in 2021 as a first-round draft pick, selected No. 26 overall by Cleveland. He spent his first four and a half seasons with the Browns before being dealt to the Jacksonville Jaguars in early October of last season.
His stint in Jacksonville did not go well, as he surrendered five passing touchdowns across 12 games for the franchise. His production in New York has been a dramatic reversal by comparison.
Given how well he has performed in a Giants uniform, it comes as little surprise that both sides were motivated to turn a short-term arrangement into a longer partnership extending beyond 2026.
