Twitch commentator Hasan Piker and Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., cohosted a campaign event in Minnesota on Monday night, using the stage to criticize President Donald Trump's administration and Democrats who are open to working with him.

Piker, who streams political commentary on Twitch, described Republicans as "terrorists" during the event. Omar called the party the "pedophile protection party." The remarks came during a question-and-answer session moderated by Omar Fateh, who lost his bid for Minneapolis mayor.

Omar said Trump's fixation on Minnesota dates to 2016, when he arrived at the airport and asked for the state's votes. "We said, no thank you. We continued to say, no thank you," she said. She added that Trump falsely claims to have won Minnesota three times, and predicted that a fourth defeat was coming.

She also said Minnesota has no interest in a party she described as corrupt and focused on enriching itself. "Minnesota does not come after the refugees, they send one to Congress," Omar said.

Later in the session, Piker turned on moderate Democrats. He argued that many in the party gave ground to Trump in 2024 when they began "saying that migrants were a national security threat." In his words, migrants are neighbors and allies who work alongside Americans and are a benefit, not a burden. Any Democrat who refuses to recognize that, he said, is "un-American."

Piker said he would not even bring up Republicans, whom he called "the most un-American force in this country." He accused them of terrorizing neighborhoods and destroying what remains of the social fabric. He told Democrats who believe the problem will fade that they were wrong in 2024 and are wrong now. "A paperwork violation does not require deportation," he said, calling such a penalty cruel and unjust.

The appearance follows a period in which Democratic campaigns had largely kept Piker at a distance. That came after a troubled joint appearance last month with Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan.

Piker's commentary has recently damaged El-Sayed's insurgent progressive campaign, in particular his assertion that America "deserved" the 9/11 terrorist attacks. El-Sayed felt compelled to create distance between himself and the streamer once the connection became public.

El-Sayed said "all Americans deserve the right to advocate for what they believe without fear of violence" and that "antisemitism is a scourge, and we need to address it in all its forms." He added that "nobody speaks for this campaign besides me and my campaign spokespeople." He also said that while politicians and pundits try to make the race about a Twitch streamer, his campaign would focus on gas, groceries, good schools and healthcare.
