Arlington and its neighbors have a crowded weekend lined up, with music, food festivals and Halloween-themed gatherings running from Friday, Oct. 23, through Sunday, Oct. 25.
On Saturday, Levitt Pavilion Arlington, 100 W. Abram St., hosts the National Life Group Do Good Fest from 4 to 10 p.m. The Barenaked Ladies headline, followed by Chad Hollister, Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories and local high school musicians. Every dollar raised goes to Tarrant Area Food Bank to fight child hunger. Admission starts at $20, with larger donations encouraged, and children 5 and under get in free.
Also on Saturday, Ed Sheeran's Loop Tour plays AT&T Stadium, 1 AT&T Way, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets range from $26 to $462. The early finish leaves time for dinner nearby. Those after something quieter can visit The Planetarium at UT Arlington, 700 Planetarium Place, at 3:30 p.m. for Cosmic Soundbath, a $30 relaxation session with guided breathing, a 30-minute sound bath and planetarium visuals.
Food draws much of the attention. Arlington Oktoberfest runs from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday at S.J. Stovall Park, 2800 W. Sublett Road, offering live German music, food trucks, beverages, yard games, a stein-hosting contest and a photo booth. Entry and parking are free, while food and drink are sold on site. The 40th annual Hong Kong Night Market takes over the Asia Times Square Outdoor Plaza, 2625 W. Pioneer Parkway, from 4 to 10 p.m. Friday, noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and noon to 9:15 p.m. Sunday. It features sizzling street food and live performances, including a traditional lion dance, and admission is free.
In Grand Prairie, the Main Street Fest brings a classic carnival atmosphere to downtown along W. Main Street, with carousels, games, amusement rides and live music. It runs from 5 p.m. to midnight Friday, 10 a.m. to midnight Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
Pet owners can head to Wag O' Ween, a free, family- and dog-friendly fall festival at Tails 'N Trails Dog Park, 950 SE Green Oaks Blvd., from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. It includes local vendors, food trucks, a raffle and costume contests for pets and people. A "Run for Their Lives!" 5K, with registration starting at $30, raises money for the Arlington Animal Shelter.
Families have another Halloween option Friday. Trail or Treat takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the East Library & Recreation Center, 1817 New York Ave., and is free.
The weekend closes in Fort Worth with YELL-O-WEEN, a Halloween-themed group yelling event from the Fort Worth Yell Club. It is set for 1 to 2:45 p.m. Sunday at Streams & Valleys Plaza, 2500 River Drive. Coffee service begins at 1 p.m., with the first yell at 2:15 p.m. The event includes matcha drinks from The Brown Thumb and a costume contest in which the top three entries win cash prizes. Admission is free. The location is outside Arlington, but the Fort Worth Report's Mica Magday noted that many Arlington residents attended the club's first event two weeks ago.
