Delta, a widely used retro game emulator for Apple devices, has released version 2.0, a major update headlined by a redesigned Liquid Glass interface and support for the iPhone Duo, according to 9to5Mac.
For the new foldable hardware, the app includes controller skins built for each of the device's different poses. Among them are Nintendo DS layouts that make use of the full inner display. When the Duo is partly folded in portrait book mode, the layout is designed to span the crease.
The larger inner screen allows for a more immersive play experience, but the developers have also made sure the app reflows naturally on the smaller outer screen when the device is closed and held in portrait.
One detail mimics real hardware: folding the Duo shut automatically puts the emulated DS to sleep, just as closing a physical DS console would.
Delta also has a notable approach to landscape Split View. Normally, running two apps side by side on the iPhone Duo limits each to half of the screen. Delta exposes the bottom half of the virtual DS as a custom keyboard view, which the system lets stretch across the full width of the display. In a screenshot shared with the report, that keyboard overlaps an unrelated video-playing app running on the other side of the split.
Beyond foldable support, version 2.0 adds compatibility with Sega Genesis ROMs and improves navigation within the game library. Updated audio settings now let game sound mix alongside music or a podcast that is already playing. The update includes further changes as well.
The premium version of Delta can be unlocked through an in-app subscription purchased directly from the App Store, which is now available worldwide. Users in the United States, the European Union, Brazil and Japan also have the option of supporting the app through Patreon.
