Scarlett Johansson is finally talking about her secretive role in The Batman Part II, and she admits the character was not an easy one to crack.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight published on Wednesday, the actress was asked about her upcoming projects, The Exorcist: Martyrs and The Batman Part II, and which of the two parts pushed her furthest outside her comfort zone.
"Probably the role in The Batman," she responded. "It gave me a lot of existential angst for some reason."
Johansson went on to say the part was especially difficult to work out, though she could not pinpoint exactly why. "It was very hard to figure out. I don't know why, whether it was just the role or was just where I'm in my life, or what's going on, but it was just hard to crack it. And that's all I can say about it. It was a tough role in a lot of ways," she added.
Director Matt Reeves confirmed back in May that Johansson would be joining the sequel to his 2022 film, which stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne and his alter ego Batman. So far, however, no details have been revealed about the character she will play.
Johansson is not the only fresh face in the follow-up. Other new additions to the sequel's ensemble include Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry and Sebastian Koch.
The production has already weathered at least one bump in the road. Filming paused briefly in October after Reeves stepped away to attend to a family matter, according to DC Studios. Later that month, filmmaker Steven Soderbergh, known for Ocean's Eleven and Traffic, stepped in with the studio's support to help Reeves get through the final stretch of principal photography.
The Batman Part II is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on Feb. 18, 2028.
