The Edmonton Oilers have opened the 2026-27 NHL season as genuine road warriors, winning each of their first seven games away from home. They will try to stretch that run to eight on Tuesday night when they wrap up a three-game trip against the New Jersey Devils at the Prudential Center in Newark, with puck drop set for 7:30 p.m. Eastern.

Edmonton (11-2-2) has won three straight overall while surrendering a total of one goal in that span. The trip began Saturday with a 4-0 victory over the New York Islanders and continued with a 4-1 win against the New York Rangers on Sunday. Tristan Jarry posted back-to-back shutouts before Matt Tomkins made 27 saves against the Rangers, and Jarry is likely to be back in the crease for this one.

Connor McDavid leads the NHL with 39 points and 30 assists, and he has landed on the scoresheet in each of Edmonton's first 15 games. The 29-year-old superstar, a six-time Art Ross Trophy winner and three-time Hart Trophy recipient, has collected 21 of his points on the road, where he has posted a pair of five-point performances along with a four-point effort. His 15-game assist streak to start the season is an NHL record.

McDavid will look to extend that streak against a goaltender he enjoys facing. He has registered 51 points in 32 career games against New Jersey's Connor Hellebuyck, the most he has produced against any netminder. All of those contests came while Hellebuyck was with the Winnipeg Jets, who traded the three-time Vezina Trophy winner to the Devils on Oct. 23. Hellebuyck has won his first two starts for New Jersey, posting a 1.50 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage.

The Devils have lost just one of their last six games and have won four straight at home, and they are -160 money-line favorites in the latest consensus odds. Even so, with Edmonton tied for second in the league with 63 goals and coming off three consecutive four-goal outings, the SportsLine Projection Model leans toward goals rather than a goaltending duel: its simulations have the Over on 6.5 hitting 56% of the time, earning an A grade. New Jersey star Jack Hughes, tied for eighth in the league with 54 shots on goal, has recorded at least six in two of his last three games.

Oilers at Devils headlines an 11-game NHL schedule on Tuesday, Nov. 3. In Toronto at 7 p.m., the Maple Leafs host the Utah Mammoth in a meeting of two of the league's highest-scoring teams. Toronto ranks fourth with 60 goals while Utah is tied for sixth with 54, and the Mammoth won 5-4 when the clubs combined for nine tallies in Salt Lake City on Oct. 13. The SportsLine model projects a more tightly contested rematch, while expert Jeff Hochman is backing Utah, which has yet to lose back-to-back games this season after a 6-3 setback in Philadelphia.

Later, the Anaheim Ducks visit the Vancouver Canucks at 9 p.m. Each of Anaheim's last four games has featured nine or more total goals, and the teams combined for 11 when they met in Anaheim last Tuesday. Vancouver has allowed a league-worst 72 goals and the Ducks are tied for 26th with 53 allowed, but the SportsLine model still likes the Under on 6.5, a pick it graded an A after more than 57% of simulations stayed below the total.

In college basketball, Drexel visits Virginia at 7:30 p.m. in Charlottesville. The Cavaliers averaged 80.4 points last season, their highest mark since 2000-01, but they may not find much room from beyond the arc against a Dragons team that ranked 13th in the nation in opponents' 3-point percentage at 30%. Drexel is just 3-12 in its last 15 meetings with ranked opponents, though one of those wins was a 57-55 upset of then-No. 18 Villanova in December 2023. The SportsLine model is not calling for another upset, but it projects Drexel to cover a 31.5-point spread 67% of the time.
