The Gaylord Pacific Resort & Convention Center has announced that it will open on Thursday, May 15, 2025. Details on the opening ceremony and its timing are expected to be released later, but the date marks a major milestone for the $1.3 billion development in Chula Vista.
The property will be the largest hotel on the West Coast and the sixth in the Gaylord Hotels collection, which operates under Marriott Bonvoy.
The resort will have 1,600 guest rooms, each offering views of San Diego Bay and the Chula Vista Marina. Guests will be able to choose among twelve dining venues serving international cuisine. A 4.25-acre waterpark will feature waterslides, a lazy river, wave pools and private cabanas, with two poolside bars on site. Other amenities include a full-service spa, a fitness center and bicycle rentals.
For meetings and events, the resort offers 477,000 square feet of space intended to host conferences and gatherings of any size. The convention center includes four main ballrooms and three levels of meeting rooms that can be arranged in a range of configurations. The design is meant to let guests combine business functions with leisure options in one location.
The resort is expected to create 800 jobs for local residents. It has partnered with the San Diego Workforce Partnership and community organizations on employment initiatives. A large hiring fair is approaching, and applications and further details are available online through the resort's website.
The hotel is one part of a broader $1.35 billion Bayfront project covering 535 acres. That plan sets aside 200 acres for parks and open space and includes a shoreline path, walking trails, camping areas, retail shops and restaurants. Ecological buffers are intended to preserve coastal resources, and public art and signage will recognize the area's Kumeyaay heritage.
Taken together, the development is expected to establish Chula Vista as a significant hospitality destination on the West Coast. The resort is also expected to add to the local economy and create a new entertainment center in Southern California.
