The woman critically wounded in a shooting Tuesday (Oct. 27) in Metairie had asked a court for a protective order against her former dating partner months earlier, according to court records. The man, from Lafayette, shot her and then killed himself.
Fox 8 is not naming the woman. She filed her petition on July 22 in a Jefferson Parish court, alleging that Ahmad Alexander Rochon had choked her, broken bones and repeatedly threatened her.
The Jefferson Parish Coroner identified Rochon, 26, of Lafayette, on Wednesday as the man authorities say shot the woman outside an office building at 110 Veterans Memorial Blvd. Minutes later, after driving to Oaklawn Drive and Toulouse Street, he took his own life.
In the petition, the woman described an attack as recent as May 30, 2026. It listed Rochon's address as Copperas Cove, a Central Texas town near Killeen. "The defendant held me down and choked me until I nearly passed out, then slammed the door on my hand when I began running toward the door to leave, resulting in a fractured finger," she wrote. She said the injury needed about eight stitches and left her unable to do her work duties properly.
She also described ongoing harassment. According to the filing, Rochon called her from random numbers and contacted her on any app he could find her on. She quoted him as saying he knew where she worked or lived and that he would get what he wanted. She wrote that he sent screenshots taken from her friends' social media accounts to show he was watching her, and told her, "You need to do something about me before I get there. Something's gonna happen soon."
Court records show the protective order was preliminarily granted. However, hearings set for August and October were continued because Rochon had not been served with the legal documents. Another hearing was scheduled for Dec. 8, and a clerk's minutes entry said the court had advised the woman "to seek legal assistance regarding proper service" to Rochon.
On the petition, the woman listed the building where she was shot as her employer's address. She identified Rochon as a current or former dating partner, said the abuse occurred in Jefferson Parish and had "happened more often over the past year," and indicated he had previously threatened or attempted suicide. Her mother declined to comment Wednesday, while a coworker described her as always happy and smiling.
"It's the worst case scenario for a typical situation because many people in a bad relationship want to leave, but it doesn't always end in tragedy," said Shirley Young, a licensed clinical social worker with Metro Centers for Community Advocacy. Young said it is unclear whether the victim sought help from the center because her name was not disclosed. She said the organization has answered nearly 4,000 calls for help this year from victims in the River Parishes, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, Jefferson, Orleans and St. Tammany.
Help is available to any victim of domestic violence, sexual abuse, stalking or human trafficking, including emergency sheltering, through the 24-hour crisis hotline at 504-837-5400 or 1-888-411-1333, online at mccagno.org or by email at [email protected]. "We've helped many people, and there is a chance for a better life," Young said. Investigators' latest medical update said the victim remained hospitalized in critical condition.
