Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown will avoid jail time after pleading guilty Friday to a lesser charge in connection with a shooting that took place in Miami last year.

Brown, a Super Bowl champion, was originally sought on an attempted murder charge in May 2025, after a fight allegedly broke out between him and several other individuals shortly after a celebrity boxing event. He pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a firearm and was sentenced to three years of probation.

Under the agreement, Brown must undergo a mandatory psychological evaluation and may also have to attend weekly counseling sessions if a judge requires it.

"My client was facing 30 years in prison with a 20-year minimum mandatory, and he was given an offer he just couldn't refuse," Brown's defense attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, told reporters. "Probation was too good to turn down, and we're both very excited about the outcome."

Videos of the altercation circulated on social media, along with pictures of Brown in handcuffs. Brown later posted online claiming that he had been jumped by people trying to take his jewelry.

"Regarding the boxing event that happened last night, I was jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me," Brown wrote at the time. He said police temporarily detained him until they received his side of the story and then released him, adding, "I WENT HOME THAT NIGHT AND WAS NOT ARRESTED."

Brown also said he would speak with his legal counsel about pressing charges against the individuals who jumped him. "I will keep you all posted step-by-step on the process. Thank you for the support and love," he wrote.

Brown last played in the NFL for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the 2021 season under then-coach Bruce Arians. He was said to be joining the Baltimore Ravens in 2023, but nothing materialized. In June 2024, he blamed lawsuits and others for his financial misfortunes. Five years earlier, he served an eight-game suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy as a result of sexual and personal misconduct allegations levied against him.

From 2010 to 2018 with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Brown was named to the Pro Bowl seven times and was a four-time All-Pro. He played one game for the New England Patriots in 2019 and spent his final two seasons with the Buccaneers.
