The Philadelphia Flyers lost a late third-period lead Thursday in New York, conceding two goals as the Rangers rallied for a 3-2 victory. Philadelphia’s second consecutive defeat left the team with five losses in its past six games. The Flyers fell to 4-10-4 overall and remained winless against Metropolitan Division opponents at 0-4-4.

New York opened the scoring 4 minutes, 39 seconds into the first period through a shot that changed direction twice. Marcus Pettersson fired from the point, J.T. Miller redirected the puck in the high slot, and Gabe Perreault added another touch while tangled up with Christian Dvorak. The puck went past Flyers goaltender Joseph Woll after Philadelphia had missed opportunities to move it out of danger.

The Flyers gained momentum as the opening period progressed, with Dvorak, Trevor Zegras and Travis Konecny helping drive the attack. Philadelphia sustained pressure in the Rangers’ zone during the final minute of the period and generated five shot attempts. That improvement carried into the second period against rookie goaltender Dylan Garand, who was appearing in his 12th consecutive game, including two relief outings.

Simon Benoit brought Philadelphia level with his first goal since March 10, 2025, ending a drought of 103 games. After an attempted Rangers clearance traveled up the boards, Benoit stepped into the puck and beat Garand with Noah Cates and New York defenseman Scott Morrow screening the goalie. Just 1 minute, 59 seconds later, Noel Acciari scored his second goal of the season to put the Flyers ahead 2-1.

Denver Barkey created Acciari’s goal after Jamie Drysdale’s shot struck Eeli Tolvanen’s stick and bounced toward him. With his back to the net and Vladislav Gavrikov defending him, Barkey controlled the puck, turned and slipped a pass around Gavrikov for Acciari to finish from close range. Barkey said afterward that he knew Acciari was nearby and wanted to send the puck into an area where he could score.

The Rangers equalized on the power play with 6:08 remaining in regulation while Barkey served a slashing penalty against Tye Kartye. Mika Zibanejad delivered a quick pass from the wall beyond Benoit’s stick to Pavel Dorofeyev, whose shot from the right circle passed between Travis Sanheim’s legs and above Woll’s glove. Less than two minutes later, Kartye received a long pass from Adam Fox, found space to advance and beat Woll with a wrist shot for the winning goal.

Woll finished with 25 saves on 28 shots, and Philadelphia failed to score on its lone power-play opportunity. Cole Knuble played center for the Flyers for the first time this season, while defenseman David Jiříček was a healthy scratch for a seventh consecutive game. Philadelphia’s five-game road trip continues Sunday against the Calgary Flames in Alberta, opening a back-to-back with a 7 p.m. game scheduled for NBCSP.
