No. 9 LSU overwhelmed Texas Southern 131-22 on Thursday night in Baton Rouge, recording the largest victory in women's Division I history against a Division I opponent, according to ESPN Research.
The 109-point margin eclipsed the previous mark set by Baylor in a 140-32 win over Winthrop on Dec. 15, 2016. That Baylor squad was coached by Kim Mulkey, who now leads the Lady Tigers.
LSU ripped off a 50-0 run spanning the second and third quarters, the biggest such burst by any team against a Division I opponent since Mulkey took over the program in the 2021-22 season, according to ESPN Research.
That surge included a 40-0 stretch in the second quarter, the second-largest shutout quarter since Division I moved to quarters in 2015-16. The only larger one was a 44-0 quarter posted by Texas Southern in 2024.
Seven LSU players finished in double figures. Freshman Anna Minaeva led the way with 21 points, Mikaylah Williams added 20, and Iowa State transfer Jada Williams scored 18. ZaKiyah Johnson chipped in 17, Grace Knox and MiLaysia Fulwiley had 15 apiece, and Lola Lampley closed the group with 10.
Jada Williams went scoreless in the opening quarter before catching fire, making 6 of 7 shots, including three 3-pointers, across eight minutes in the second period. Fulwiley and Knox each added six points during that dominant quarter.
Texas Southern, which fell to 0-2, was paced by Jayla Cornelius with six points. The Tigers shot just 13 percent, hitting 8 of 55 attempts, and committed 38 turnovers. LSU converted those mistakes into a staggering 55-0 advantage in points off turnovers.
The evening also included a tribute, as LSU presented flowers to former All-American Angel Reese, who helped the Lady Tigers capture their first national championship in 2022. Reese earned this year's WNBA Defensive Player of the Year honors and was part of the Atlanta Dream's first trip to the WNBA championship series.
