New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson traded basketball for detective work in a guest appearance on Thursday's episode of "Law & Order: SVU." The 2026 NBA Finals MVP portrayed Detective Jay Madison in "Forsaken," the fifth episode of the season, sharing a restaurant scene with series star Mariska Hargitay.

The sequence begins with Hargitay entering the restaurant behind Brunson's father, Rick, who is also a Knicks assistant coach. After Rick moves out of view, Jalen is shown seated at the bar with pizza in front of him. Hargitay congratulates his character on a promotion, and Madison credits his focus and effort for the result.

Madison then discusses notes from a recent encounter involving someone named Rick. In his account, Rick registered a .25 reading and began shouting at him. The detective provides further details about the encounter, including a search. Hargitay thanks him before stepping away to answer a phone call, bringing the cameo of nearly one minute to a close.

Brunson discussed the upcoming broadcast after scoring 33 points Wednesday, describing the opportunity as unusual but welcome. "It's a weird feeling, but grateful for the opportunity," he said. He also expressed gratitude to Hargitay. NBC had announced his appearance in September without disclosing his character, a day after he was seen at the show's Brooklyn set.

The television appearance follows several entertainment engagements since Brunson led the Knicks to their first championship in 53 years. He joined Harry Styles onstage during the singer's Halloween performance at Madison Square Garden and appeared in the opening of the Emmy Awards broadcast hosted by Hargitay.

Brunson also hosted the Sept. 26 season premiere of "Saturday Night Live." Knicks teammates Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, Josh Hart and Mikal Bridges joined him for his opening monologue.

His connection with Hargitay extends beyond television. A Knicks fan, she attended Game 4 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden, where New York overcame a 29-point deficit to defeat the San Antonio Spurs 107-106. That victory helped propel the Knicks toward their first championship since 1973. Brunson and Hargitay embraced on the court afterward.

Their appreciation for each other's work has developed into a friendship. Brunson attended Hargitay's Broadway performance in "Every Brilliant Thing" in June. Hargitay later joined him, his father and his wife on his bus during the Knicks' championship parade.
