New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn told reporters on Wednesday that wide receiver Garrett Wilson is in the concussion protocol, a development that lands just one week before the 2026 NFL trade deadline on Nov. 10. Wilson, the 2022 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, had been viewed as one of the top playmakers who could be available before the cutoff.

Wilson has been the clear centerpiece of the Jets' passing attack this season. He leads the team in targets with 63, catches with 43, receiving yards with 527 and receiving touchdowns with 3. The four-year, $130 million contract extension he signed is scheduled to kick in next season.

On the surface, it seems inconceivable that the rebuilding Jets would move on from a 26-year-old who has been one of the faces of the franchise. Still, Wilson has shown public signs of frustration as the losses have piled up, including during the Week 7 defeat against the previously winless Miami Dolphins.

During that game, CBS cameras captured Wilson in an animated sideline exchange involving quarterback Geno Smith and passing game coordinator Seth Ryan. Afterward, Wilson described the moment as a constructive conversation rather than a confrontation.

"We were collaborating," Wilson said, via ESPN. "I don't even think I was talking to Geno. I think we were both heated, but not at each other at all. We were just disappointed with how we were playing up to that point and wanted to be a little more aggressive. That's what that was."

Wilson also spoke about wanting the ball in his hands and wanting to make a difference for a team that keeps coming up short. He said the discussion was about being aggressive, avoiding the situations that have cost the Jets games and finding a way to win contests in which they believe they are the better team, even when the results say otherwise.

Wilson has said he wants to "make an impact," and the open question is whether that impact will continue to come in a Jets uniform over the long term. New York sits at 2-6, and with the Nov. 10 trade deadline looming, his status, both his health and his future with the franchise, will be one of the league's most watched storylines in the coming days.
