Los Angeles Rams pass rusher Myles Garrett will return to practice this week, coach Sean McVay said Monday, Nov. 2. The announcement comes after Garrett spent time on injured reserve following arthroscopic knee surgery in mid-September, though McVay did not give a timetable for his return to game action.
Garrett appeared in the Rams' season opener but acknowledged afterward that he had not been fully healthy for the game. His knee had also limited his preparation for the season. He missed most of training camp with an issue McVay described as knee irritation before undergoing surgery in September.
McVay cautioned against treating the upcoming return to practice as a basis for predicting when Garrett would play again. He said the Rams would assess how Garrett responds as he resumes work, taking each day as it comes rather than establishing expectations about the next stage of his return.
"I want to be careful to even set any sort of expectations," McVay said. He described the start of Garrett's practice window as a positive development, while emphasizing that watching his response would guide the team's approach. McVay said that proceeding one day at a time was the right course for Garrett.
Tight end Terrance Ferguson could also resume practicing this week, although that decision had not been made, McVay said. Ferguson has missed the Rams' past five games while on injured reserve after spraining his ankle against the Denver Broncos in Week 3. McVay indicated that opening his practice window was more likely than not.
The Rams are also monitoring cornerbacks Jaylen Watson and Trent McDuffie ahead of Sunday's game against the Washington Commanders. Both players exited the team's Week 8 victory with injuries. McVay said their availability would be evaluated throughout the week, with neither player's status for the Washington game settled.
Watson aggravated an existing injury to his right shoulder, McVay said. The coach reported that Watson had shown good strength and was feeling positive, but said the Rams would continue assessing him as the game approached before determining his status.
McDuffie left the Week 8 game after taking a knee to his back. McVay said the cornerback was feeling better than the team had anticipated, though his participation against Washington remained subject to the same daily assessment.
