Detroit Lions All-Pro linebacker Jack Campbell issued a statement on Wednesday, November 4, announcing that he has regained full movement in his lower body. He also noted that he is continuing to make progress with movement in his upper body as he recovers from a neck injury sustained during Sunday's game.

Campbell remains hospitalized following the incident. During the 19-15 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, the linebacker was placed on a backboard and carted off the field early in the fourth quarter. Medical reports indicated that he was alert and breathing when he was transported to the hospital.

In his personal statement, Campbell expressed deep gratitude for the support he has received from fans and family. "I'm incredibly encouraged by the progress I've made in such a short period of time," he said. "I have full movement in my lower body, and I'm continuing to make progress with movement in my upper body. I know there's still work ahead, but I remain very optimistic."

The linebacker described his current mindset as taking things one day at a time while staying positive. He emphasized the strength of his faith, stating that he trusts in God's plan for him. Campbell also highlighted the importance of his family and the many people supporting him through this challenge.

Campbell specifically thanked the athletic trainers and medical personnel who attended to him on the field. He described those initial moments as difficult but praised the professionalism and compassion shown by the staff. "The way you handled everything and looked after me when I needed it most is something I'll never forget," he wrote.

He also extended his thanks to the medical team at Henry Ford Hospital and the Detroit Lions medical staff for their care throughout the process. Campbell expressed his appreciation for his teammates, coaches, and the entire Lions organization, noting that the team feels like a family to him and that he is proud to be a part of the Detroit community.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell commented on the update, noting the significance of Jack Campbell sharing the news himself shortly before the team's scheduled news conferences. "That's good news. That's positive news," Dan Campbell said. "We're all thankful for that."

The injury occurred when Campbell, who was face down on the turf and not moving, had just tackled Minnesota tight end T.J. Hockenson for the third time in the game. After being evaluated by medical personnel, he was strapped to a board and lifted onto a cart to a round of applause from Detroit's players and coaching staff.

Campbell, a former Iowa star, was selected by the Lions with the 18th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Last season, he earned an All-Pro selection after becoming the first NFL player in seven years to record over 150 tackles, at least five sacks, and three forced fumbles.

The linebacker signed a four-year contract extension with Detroit last May, which runs through the 2030 season. The Lions, who currently hold a 5-2 record, are set to play at the Miami Dolphins, who are 1-6, on Sunday.
