Netflix is introducing a new artificial intelligence feature designed to deepen its understanding of subscriber preferences. The tool, named AI Discover, aims to move beyond static lists by engaging users in a more nuanced interaction with the platform. The goal is to provide highly targeted content suggestions that align with a viewer's immediate emotional state and specific requests.

A Netflix spokesperson explained that the feature relies on a new intelligence layer built to respond to member input in real time. The system is designed to learn continuously from these interactions. According to the spokesperson, the platform can now interpret what a subscriber is in the mood for at any given moment and adjust the experience accordingly. The company emphasized that the primary focus is on how the feature feels to use, allowing the interface to shift based on user commands.

This launch addresses a challenge that has persisted for two decades. As Netflix's library has grown rapidly, determining the most effective way to present relevant content to individual users has become increasingly complex. The new tool is intended to solve this problem by making the discovery process more dynamic and responsive to current user intent.

AI Discover will appear as a distinct tab on the Netflix homepage. This section opens an experimental environment represented by a red pulsing jewel icon. The rollout began in the United States on November 3, 2026, and is expected to expand over the coming weeks. In its initial version, the feature does not include movies, focusing exclusively on television shows.

The user experience begins with a carousel of thematic options. Users can select prompts such as "Scare Me," which may be accompanied by a short clip from a relevant series. Each title within this interface includes an option to tune the recommendation. This allows users to provide feedback on their feelings about the suggested content, helping the system refine its future suggestions.

Etay Teller, the engineering director at Netflix, stated that the objective is to reimagine the discovery process. The aim is to ensure that every member's experience feels more personal and effortless. The system is designed to stay in tune with what users want, creating a seamless flow between request and result.

The exact mechanics of the feature are still evolving. Netflix plans to test various implementations over time, meaning the functionality may change as the system matures. The name AI Discover reflects a dual purpose. It refers to subscribers using AI to find content, but also to the company using AI to determine the best ways to utilize the technology within its platform.

The company clarified that feedback generated through this specific feature will not be used to help executives make decisions about programming. This distinction separates the personalization engine from the broader strategic planning of the content library.

This is not the first time Netflix has integrated AI into its search capabilities. The company previously partnered with OpenAI to enhance its basic search field. However, AI Discover was developed entirely in-house. Netflix describes it as a completely different and more expansive application of artificial intelligence compared to its previous search tools.

The new tab is being treated as a testing ground. A spokesperson compared it to a test kitchen, a space where new discovery experiences can be tried and refined. Netflix already uses algorithms to suggest content based on factors such as the time of day, but this new interface represents a significant step toward a more conversational and adaptive viewing experience.
