Miami landed a landmark commitment Thursday when five-star wide receiver Brysen Wright, ranked as the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2028 class by ESPN, announced he will play for the Hurricanes and reclassify into the 2027 cycle.
Wright, a 6-foot-4, 215-pound pass catcher from Jacksonville, Florida, selected Miami over finalists Florida and Texas. With his move into the 2027 class, he is expected to sign with the Hurricanes in December and arrives as the second-ranked member of coach Mario Cristobal's latest recruiting haul.
A junior at Mandarin High School, Wright is regarded as one of the most sought-after high school prospects in the country regardless of class. He totaled 77 receptions for 1,629 yards and 18 touchdowns over his first two varsity seasons. Upon entering the 2027 SC Next ESPN 300, he slots in as the nation's top-ranked wide receiver and the No. 7 overall prospect in the cycle.
Wright had been a long-term priority for Cristobal and his staff. He made game-day visits to each of his finalists this fall, a tour that ended with a trip to Miami for the program's 43-35 overtime victory against Florida State on Oct. 17.
Sources told ESPN that Wright's choice to join the Hurricanes early was shaped in part by the rise of star wideout Malachi Toney. Toney reclassified from the 2026 cycle and went on to lead the nation in receptions while earning first-team All-ACC honors last fall, offering a blueprint for an early arrival making an immediate impact in Coral Gables.
Wright becomes the second five-star pledge in Miami's current class, following five-star athlete A'mir Sears. The group began Thursday at No. 7 in ESPN's class rankings for the cycle.
The Hurricanes now hold commitments from three SC Next ESPN 300 wide receivers in the 2027 class. Along with Wright, that group includes in-state standout Nick Lennear, ranked No. 33 overall, and four-star Eli Woodward at No. 218.
The commitment comes as the unbeaten Hurricanes prepare for one of their biggest games of the season. No. 1 Miami (8-0, 6-0) visits No. 11 Notre Dame on Saturday in a highly anticipated matchup of College Football Playoff contenders, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 PM ET on ABC.
