More than 600,000 people in Ukraine's eastern Dnipropetrovsk region lost electricity after a Russian overnight strike on an energy facility, a Ukrainian power provider said.

Outages on Sunday hit residents in the Pavlohrad, Samarivskyi, Kamianske and Dnipro districts, along with the city of Dnipro, according to a Telegram post from power company DTEK.

The company said engineers were working at the site to restore the damaged facility but warned that "repairs are being complicated by repeated attacks".

In northeastern Ukraine, a separate strike on an infrastructure facility cut power to another 250,000 people in the Kharkiv region on Sunday.

Mykola Baksheyev, mayor of the city of Zlatopil, said on Telegram that "no casualties have been reported". He added that repair crews were addressing the damage but cautioned that "the exact timeframe for restoring the electricity supply remains unknown".

The strikes came a day after Ukraine's Ministry of Energy said a massive assault on energy facilities had left residents in five regions in darkness and significantly disrupted electricity transmission in Kyiv.

Ukraine is bracing for another punishing winter of war as Russia steps up daily aerial attacks, sending waves of drones and missiles against the country's power network.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Russia of intensifying the strikes to pressure Kyiv ahead of United States-brokered trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Russia's Ministry of Defence said on its Telegram channel that its forces will "continue to carry out strikes against Ukrainian fuel and energy infrastructure facilities", which Moscow claims are used to support the Ukrainian military.
