The Everett Herald has opened voting for its Prep Athlete of the Week for Oct. 18-24, with seven nominees from across Snohomish County in contention. Voting closes at midnight Sunday, and the winner will be announced with the next poll and in next Wednesday's paper.

Last week's honoree came from Edmonds. E.J. Manning, a senior safety for Edmonds-Woodway football, intercepted Shorecrest three times in an Oct. 16 victory and returned one of those picks 62 yards for a touchdown. He totaled 151 return yards and added 53 yards on six carries and two receptions. Manning claimed the Oct. 11-17 award by collecting 338 of 741 votes, or 45.61%.

Among this week's nominees is another Edmonds-Woodway senior, midfielder Izzy Han of the girls soccer team. Han scored both Warriors goals in a 2-0 win over Archbishop Murphy on Oct. 22.

Two cross country runners earned nominations for conference titles. Elijah Graves, a Shorewood senior, won the Wesco 3A/2A South boys title with the fastest time among all Wesco runners on Oct. 24. Dahlia Zener, a Glacier Peak freshman, took the Wesco 4A girls title on Oct. 21, also posting the fastest time among all Wesco runners.

Lake Stevens has two nominees. Ella Iseminger, a junior outside hitter on the volleyball team, recorded 26 kills and 22 digs in a win over Glacier Peak on Oct. 20. On the same date, senior midfielder Noelani Tupua scored twice in a 3-0 girls soccer win over Jackson, helping the Vikings lock up a fourth straight league title.

In boys tennis, Jackson's Samuel Song won the 4A District 1 singles tournament on Oct. 21.

The most detailed stat line belongs to Mason Wilson, the Mountlake Terrace senior quarterback. He sent his game into overtime with a 7-yard touchdown run and a 2-point conversion, then won it in the extra period with a 4-yard touchdown, his 22nd carry of the night. Wilson finished with 158 rushing yards and three scores on the ground. He also completed 16 of 25 passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns, and he led his team with 11 tackles on defense.

The Herald says nominees are chosen using stats reported to the newspaper, coach recommendations and first-hand observations. Stats and nominee suggestions can be sent to [email protected], and nominees must be submitted by 9 a.m. Monday. The paper notes that an athlete may have been missed if individual stats were not reported, and it asks coaches and scorekeepers to report results by 10:30 p.m. on the day of the event.
