Newly surfaced surveillance footage captures the frightening moment a teenage girl fled from a man police say kidnapped her and stabbed her repeatedly inside a Baltimore, Maryland home. An anonymous source provided the video to Fox News Digital.
The suspect, identified by the Baltimore Police Department as 23-year-old Abubakarr Barrie, faces a slate of charges tied to the attack, including attempted murder and kidnapping. According to multiple reports, Barrie had been working as an unlicensed cab driver.
The Department of Homeland Security says Barrie picked the 15-year-old victim up and drove her to what officials described as a basement property he was renting at the time. Once inside, he allegedly stabbed the girl again and again, stopping only when she managed to break free and run from the home.
The attack took place on Oct. 22. Barrie was arrested two days later, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement lodged a detainer against him on the same day he was taken into custody.
The Baltimore case was not Barrie's first encounter with law enforcement this year. The New York City Police Department previously arrested him on a charge of third-degree possession of a forged instrument, and ICE lodged a detainer at that time as well. Despite the detainer, New York City officials released him in July, roughly three months before the stabbing.
DHS confirmed Barrie is an illegal immigrant from Sierra Leone who entered the United States in December 2023 through Arizona. Border Patrol agents arrested him at the time, but he was ultimately released into the country under the Biden administration.
DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin blamed the attack on a chain of policy failures. "This tragedy would never have happened were it not for the multiple failures of sanctuary policies. First, Biden's open borders let this monster into our country, then sanctuary politicians in New York refused to hand him over to ICE and released him after a previous arrest three months before this horrific crime," Mullin said in a statement.
Mullin added that DHS is pressing local officials not to repeat what he described as New York's errors, saying the department "is urging Baltimore County authorities to learn from sanctuary New York's mistakes, honor ICE's detainer against this illegal alien, and prevent him from harming any more Americans."
Fox News Digital reached out to both the NYPD and the City of New York for comment on Barrie's earlier release.
