Elon Musk is urging voters to support Republican Senate candidates ahead of the November midterm elections, warning that Democratic control of the White House and both chambers of Congress in 2028 could allow the party to entrench its power. His appeal comes as he commits substantial financial support to Republican campaigns.

In a post on X, the Tesla and SpaceX chief executive identified three actions he fears Democrats would take if they secured unified control: making Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico states, granting legal status to immigrants living in the United States illegally, and increasing the size of the Supreme Court. He presented those possibilities as his leading concerns about a Democratic sweep.

Musk argued that statehood for Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico would give Democrats a strong advantage in the Senate. He also claimed that opening the borders and legalizing immigrants without legal status would produce a lasting electoral benefit for the party. Expanding the Supreme Court, he said, would allow Democrats to establish an immediate majority on the court.

Together, Musk warned, those actions could create a lasting system of one-party rule and undermine democracy. He said Republicans would need to hold at least 51 Senate seats after the 2028 elections to block the outcomes he described, linking that concern to his call for voters to elect Republican senators in the approaching midterms.

The contest for the Senate remains unsettled, according to Fox News Power Rankings, which identifies six states as decisive in determining control. The rankings put the Democrats' best potential result at 54 seats, while Republicans could retain their majority with as many as 52 seats.

Musk's political advocacy has been accompanied by large contributions. Earlier in October, a representative of his America PAC told Fox News that he had given $276 million to Republican super PACs and organizations during the preceding three months.

That total included $158 million for the Senate Leadership Fund, a super PAC aligned with Senate Majority Leader John Thune of South Dakota. Musk also contributed $10 million to Lone Star Liberty PAC, which supports Texas Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton criticized Musk's spending in an X post earlier in the week, accusing him of using his wealth to influence the elections for Republicans. “Elon Musk is flooding the midterms with money to help Trump,” she wrote, while questioning whether his financial support would be enough.
