Nicolas Cage told fans over the weekend that he has been left, in his words, a little bit homeless after a sinkhole swallowed part of his Malibu home.
Speaking on a panel at Los Angeles Comic Con about his Halloween plans, Cage said he is "currently a little bit homeless" because of the situation at his property on the Southern California coast.
"Something happened in my house in Malibu. So, I'm just sort of living in hotels, so I don't have the normal trick-or-treaters I would like to enjoy tonight," he said, according to a fan video of the panel.
The sinkhole opened in the actor's driveway in September, and authorities said at the time that they were investigating what caused it. City officials said the collapse also triggered a gas leak, though no one was injured.
Video of the property shows a huge crater in the driveway that appeared to consume everything that had been sitting on the surface. Aerial images did not make clear whether the house itself was damaged.
According to an emergency proclamation from the City of Malibu, the sinkhole began forming on Sept. 7 and fully emerged a day later, reaching 25 to 30 feet deep and measuring 30 by 60 feet wide.
The proclamation said seven homes were "red-tagged" because of hazardous conditions caused by the sinkhole, while another 24 homes were tagged "due to the loss of safe vehicular access." Gas service in the area was shut off.
The day after the collapse, the city said the housing association that oversees the area would take on repairs, which were expected to be finished within five weeks "depending on conditions."
Representatives for Cage did not immediately respond to a request for comment from NBC News, and it remains unclear how long he has been out of the home or when he might be able to move back in. The City of Malibu has released no further details about the sinkhole and did not immediately respond to a request for more information.
