Housing Hope, an affordable housing developer, held a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday for a new apartment complex in Everett designed for older adults. The building is expected to open in 2028.

The nonprofit, which develops affordable housing across the Snohomish County region, plans to start construction this fall on the project. The building will contain 67 housing units for adults age 55 or older. According to the organization's website, the units will be open to households at a range of income levels.

The complex is called Bayside Landing. It will rise at 2624 Rockefeller Avenue, the former home of the Everett United Church of Christ.

Members of the church previously told The Daily Herald in an interview that the congregation had held a goal of building housing on the site since the 1950s, when the church's building was rebuilt. The church sold the property to Housing Hope in July 2024 at a reduced price. Snohomish County property records show the sale was for about $1.78 million.

In a blog post Wednesday, Housing Hope expressed enthusiasm about the project. "All of us at Housing Hope are so excited to begin this next chapter in affordable housing for our agency," the organization wrote.

The post described Bayside Landing as part of a broader strategy. "Bayside Landing is another example of how we are tackling the housing and affordability crisis through a bold, dynamic approach to bring new models with new funding structures to the region," Housing Hope wrote.

With the ceremony complete, work on the apartment building is set to get under way this fall, with residents expected to be able to move in once the project opens in 2028.
