Saquon Barkley says the Philadelphia Eagles have told him he will remain with the team beyond the Nov. 10 trade deadline, giving the running back clarity about his future as Philadelphia struggles through a six-game losing streak. He discussed the assurances after Sunday night's 27-10 defeat to the Washington Commanders in Landover, Maryland.
Barkley said the message from the front office mattered to him, but his focus had already been on helping the Eagles work through their problems. He said he believes he can contribute to a turnaround both through his play and his leadership. He wants to remain part of the effort to put the team back on track.
Philadelphia is now 2-6, with just one more game before the deadline. The Eagles will host the New York Giants, who lead the NFC East, next Sunday. That matchup follows a stretch of losses that has brought questions about whether Philadelphia will move more players in exchange for future draft picks.
General manager Howie Roseman has frequently pursued trades during his tenure and already completed an October deal that could be viewed as a move to sell. Philadelphia sent offensive lineman Cam Jurgens and a 2027 seventh-round selection to the Baltimore Ravens. In return, the Eagles received a fifth-round pick in 2027 and a second-round pick in 2028.
The Eagles have continued losing since that transaction, adding to questions about further departures. Barkley said he had paid little attention to speculation on social media about whether he might be traded. Still, he welcomed the front office's backing and expressed respect for the organization, saying he believes it handles matters the right way.
Barkley also emphasized what playing for Philadelphia means to him. "It's an honor and a privilege every single time I get to go out there and play for this organization and put on the midnight green," he said.
His playing time against Washington was again restricted as he deals with hamstring and back injuries. Barkley appeared on 22 of a possible 68 plays, finishing with 14 touches, 54 yards and a touchdown. Despite those limitations and Philadelphia's continuing slide, he said he wants to help resolve the team's difficulties.
