Ukrainian authorities are preparing to receive 527 residents of Oleshky in Kherson Oblast, Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi told parliament on 30 October. Their planned journey will take them through Belarus before they enter Ukraine, where medical assistance, essential supplies and accommodation are being arranged.
Speaking during government question time in the Verkhovna Rada, Koretskyi said preparations involved the Ministry of Regional Development, the Office of the Human Rights Commissioner, the Kherson Oblast Military Administration and the Ministry of Health. He described the effort as continuing around the clock, with the agencies coordinating the process of bringing the residents to Ukrainian territory.
The first stage involves preliminary medical examinations for those preparing to leave. Koretskyi said those examinations were scheduled to be completed by 14:00 on 30 October. He gave the number of people covered by the preparations as 527, with the health checks forming part of the arrangements ahead of their journey.
Once the preliminary examinations are finished, information about the residents will be transferred to the Ministry of Health. The ministry will create an individual medical record for each person, documenting their health condition. Koretskyi said the purpose was to enable authorities to receive the group as quickly and efficiently as possible.
The prime minister described the planned journey as a complex route leading to Belarusian territory. From there, the residents are expected to cross into Ukraine. His account set out a sequence beginning with the preliminary health checks, followed by travel through Belarus and further assistance after the group reaches Ukrainian territory.
After entering Ukraine, the residents will undergo a second round of medical examinations in Chernihiv and Kyiv oblasts. Primary medical care will also be provided in those regions, making the health checks before departure and the examinations after arrival separate stages of the reception process outlined to MPs.
Assistance on arrival will include initial necessities alongside medical support. Koretskyi specifically named clothing and hygiene products among the supplies to be provided. The residents will subsequently be accommodated across various regions. He said the premises intended to house them had already been prepared, ahead of the group's planned arrival and placement.
